Ontario's police watchdog has been called in after an Ottawa Police operation on Walkley Road, in the capital's south end.
Ottawa police have not said why they were initially called to a home on Walkley Road, near Heron, Wednesday afternoon.
Police tape and several police vehicles could be seen in front of homes on the north side of Walkley Road for several hours before police confirmed that the province's Special Investigations Unit had invoked its mandate.
The SIU investigates when civilians are injured or killed during an interaction with the police, as well as allegations against police of sexual assault and when an officer discharges a firearm at a person.
Police were called to an address in the 1800 block of Walkley Road just after 2 p.m. today. Following the police interaction @SIUOntario invoked its mandate. Road closures will remain in effect for the next several hours. Further information will be provided by the SIU.— Ottawa Police (@OttawaPolice) March 8, 2023
Police closed the westbound lanes of Walkley Road, from Conroy to Heron, for the investigation. Officers also closed another street, in a nearby industrial park, blocking St. Laurent Boulevard westbound between Conroy Road and Don Reid Drive.
