Man faces charges in Parliament Hill incident

By OttawaMatters Staff

Ottawa Police have identified the suspect in a Monday morning incident on Parliament Hill during the ceremonial Changing of the Guard. A statement from Department of National Defence says soldiers, RCMP and Parliamentary Protective Services “identified and neutralized” a potential threat on the lawns of Parliament Hill at 10:15 a.m.

Parliamentary Services says earlier information about a man armed with a knife was not correct: A small pocket knife was found near a man following his arrest.

Jesse Mooney, 24, of Ottawa is charged with assault and breach of probation. Defense Minister, Harjit Sajjan tweeted his relief that no one was hurt.

Mooney appears in court Tuesday
