Rideau-Vanier council candidate ready to be the voice of her community

By Anil Jhalli

There is guaranteed to be a new city councillor for the Rideau-Vanier ward once the Oct. 24 municipal election is all said and done.

And Stéphanie Plante wants to be in that position.

Ward 12's current councillor, Mathieu Fleury has decided not to see re-election. Plante is one of 10 candidates vying to be the next municipal representative for the residents of Rideau-Vanier.

“I have been living in the ward for over 20 years,” said Plante, on The Sam Laprade Show on Aug. 25. “I am a mom, I have worked at every level of government , I have been a volunteer in the community and I know the issues and how the system works.”

Plante said issues she has heard while speaking to residents during her campaign include the doctors and nurses shortages in hospitals across the country, the lack of housing options in the ward, safer neighbourhoods and climate concerns.

“I have a lot of great ideas and I am ready to start pounding the pavement,” she said.
