The Ottawa Local Immigration Partnership welcomes newcomers

By OttawaMatters Staff

The Ottawa Local Immigration Partnership (OLIP) is holding its seventh annual Welcoming Ottawa Week (WOW). The event will run until June 30.

The annual two week event was created to give newcomers a warm welcome following their arrival to Ottawa. The partnership does this through a mix of organized activities that focus on education, financial literacy, health, language and social interaction.

This year, the program's lineup includes educational, community, fitness and art related events. During these gatherings, attendees will do things like engage in discussions on pluralism, equity and diversity. Or even participate in campaigns to raise awareness about settlement and integration. They'll also attend formal events hosted by embassies to discuss migration and resettlement efforts and even see artworks from immigrants and refugees reflecting their own experience with migrating.

OLIP is a partnership that involves 60 organizations. Their partners include the City of Ottawa, the Ottawa Library, all four Ottawa school boards and more.
