The Ottawa Senators have suspended Assistant General Manager Randy Lee.
Lee has been embroiled in controversy since his arrest and charge related to an incident in Buffalo late last month.
The club released a statement from General Manager Pierre Dorion, saying the organization has been “listening to and consulting our community, fans and partners” and proceeding with “care and caution”, while also saying harassment is “unacceptable conduct.”
Lee was charged with second-degree harassment in connection with a May 30 incident: He was accused of making lewd comments and rubbing the shoulders of a 19-year old hotel shuttle driver during an NHL Scouting Combine.
Dorion's statement says the organization has never been informed of a complaint against Lee, either before or during his 23 years with the hockey club.
The suspension is in effect until the US courts in Buffalo render a decision on his case.
Lee's next court appearance is set for July 6, and the statement says while Lee must be allowed to respond to the allegations made against him, the hockey club is applying its conduct standards and suspending him.
Lee will not be attending the NHL Draft in Dallas, and the suspension applies to all of his duties with the organization.
