Three dogs have been killed in a fire in Britannia.
Just after 1 a.m., fire crews responded to a 911 call reporting visible smoke in one side of a two-storey duplex at 2700 Howe St.
Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke on the ground floor around the kitchen, and a working fire was declared.
The fire extended to the exterior of the second floor and into the attic before the fire was contained at 1:52 a.m.
Three people suffered smoke inhalation and were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Three dogs were found dead at the scene.
The estimated damage is $100,000.
The three occupants have been left homeless by the fire, while the adjoining unit is habitable.
There is no word yet on a cause and a fire investigator is responding.
