Two rescued from early morning apartment fire on Preston

Shortly after 4 a.m., Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) responded to multiple calls reporting smoke and flames coming from a Preston Street apartment unit with two people trapped inside.

Crews quickly made entry and rescued two individuals from the apartment between Eccles Street and Anderson Street. A third patient was treated by paramedics.

Firefighters requested a bus from OC Transpo to shelter occupants from the evacuated building.

The fire was contained to the original apartment in the 14 unit three storey building and declared under control at 4:43 a.m.

Investigators are still determining the cause of the fire.
