Wife of former hostage Joshua Boyle returns to the U.S.

A woman, taken hostage by a Taliban-linked group in Afghanistan with her Canadian husband, has left Canada with the couple's three children and returned to the U.S. while she fights for full custody.

Caitlan Coleman — the wife of Joshua Boyle — left Canada on Monday night, according to an exclusive report from ABC News. A judge permitted her to relocate while she awaits a decision from an Ottawa family court on her petition for full custody of the couple's three children.

Coleman is currently pregnant with the couple's fourth child.

After being freed from captivity and settling in Ottawa, Coleman had claimed she was no longer comfortable wearing western clothing. But a photo taken this week of Coleman with her mother and aunt shows Coleman with her head uncovered, dressed in a sweater and top, and wearing jewellery.

Boyle is awaiting trial on multiple charges of physical and sexual assault, alleged to have happened after the family settled in Ottawa, late last year. He has pleaded not guilty.

Boyle is currently out on bail, living with his parents in Smiths Falls, and undergoing psychiatric treatment.
