Active shooter training video being created in Ottawa

By Mike Vlasveld

Do not be alarmed by some loud noises and a heavy police presence on Sussex Drive near the Macdonald-Cartier Bridge this weekend.

A Government of Canada training video, portraying a lockdown and active shooter situation, is being filmed there and at 234 Laurier Avenue on Saturday and Sunday.

It will replace the Government of Canada's use of the US Department of Homeland Security's video.

To make the movie as realistic as possible, the filming will feature a plain-clothes RCMP officer acting as an armed intruder and people acting as employees and building occupants.

The actors will be reacting to the simulated emergency, so there will be yelling and screaming in some takes. Gunshots might also be heard in the area as the plain-clothed RCMP officer will also be firing blanks during some takes.

RCMP officers and vehicles will be on site at 125 Sussex Dr.  All gun action shots will occur within the facility.
