Arrest made after officer assaulted on 417 near Moodie Drive

A 28-year-old Ottawa man is facing a few charges, including assaulting a police officer, after an incident on Highway 417 near Moodie Drive.

An Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer approached the driver of a vehicle which was stopped in the westbound lanes of the highway on Saturday at 2:30 p.m., but the driver refused to identify himself and became aggressive.

Police say the two got into an altercation and the officer sustained minor facial injuries before arresting the driver. The officer was seen by paramedics at the scene and no further medical assistance was needed. 

Kevin Willis has been charged with:

  • Assault Police contrary to section 270(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Resist Arrest contrary to section 270(1)(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Fail to Identify Self contrary to section 39.1(6) of the Highway Traffic Act

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on February 27 in Ottawa on the Criminal Code charges and March 6 on the Highway Traffic Act charge.
