A 31-year-old Ottawa man is facing a handful of charges after an LCBO and bank were robbed in the ByWard Market.

The first incident happened around 9:45 a.m. on Monday.

The Ottawa Police Service said a man walked into the LCBO on Rideau Street, flashed a knife at an employee and stole alcohol.

The same suspect then visited a bank on Sussex Drive near Rideau Street, walked up to a teller, showed the same knife with a note, and left with an undisclosed amount of money.

No injuries were reported in either incident.

Officers were able to track down a suspect soon after being called to the area, and the man was arrested.

As a result of the investigation, François Mbaiha, 31, of Ottawa was charged with:

– Armed robbery
– Possession of a weapon
– Failure to comply with a probation order
– Failure to comply with a recognizance

He was scheduled to attend show cause court on Monday.
