The Ottawa Police Service is laying four charges against a local man after the Wendy's on Carling Avenue was destroyed by fire.

Authorities say smoke was seen pouring out of the restaurant near the Lincoln Fields Shopping Centre around 1 a.m., Tuesday.

The blaze did enough damage to cause one of the walls to partially collapse.

Four people were treated at the scene by paramedics, but everyone made it out safely.

Steven Hanssen, 28, of Ottawa, is charged with:

– Arson endanger life
– Arson damage to property
– Breaching his court release conditions (2 counts)

Hanssen is scheduled to appear in show cause court this afternoon.
