OPP lay 200 charges in Ottawa over Canada Day weekend

By Mike Vlasveld

It was a busy Canada Day weekend for Ontario Provincial Police officers in Ottawa, as 200 tickets were issued between Friday and Monday on local highways.

Of those charges, 17 were for motorists that failed to move over for emergency vehicles that had their emergency lights on.

The OPP is reminding drivers that the law requires vehicles to slow down and change lane (if safe to do so) when passing an emergency vehicle or tow truck with its emergency lights activated on multi-lane highways.

Motorists could face a fine of $490 for failing to slow down and move over for an emergency vehicle or tow truck.
