Renfrew OPP lay attempted murder charge after woman found in forest with critical injuries

A 72-year-old Mississippi Mills man is facing four charges, including attempted murder and kidnapping, as provincial police continue to investigate an assault in a wooded area, west of Arnprior.
Around 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Renfrew County Paramedics and members of the OPP's Renfrew Detachment responded to an injured person in the bush near Gunsmith Road.
At the scene, they found a woman with critical injuries. She was transported to hospital by paramedics, where she remains in stable condition.
A man at scene was taken into police custody. He was also treated in hospital for a medical condition and minor injuries.
As a result of the ongoing investigation, William 'Bill' Kirby was charged with the following offences:
- Attempted murder
- Aggravated assault
- Kidnapping
- Criminal harassment
He will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on September 19 for a bail hearing, and has been remanded into custody.
