Canadian soldier given award

OTTAWA – A Canadian solider who was nearly killed by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan has been honoured on Parliament Hill.
The explosion in 2008 cost Master Corporal Mike Trauner both his legs below the knee and left him partial use of one arm.
Less than a year later Trauner, the Sudbury native finished a five kilometre walk.
Saturday, Trauner was given the “To the Top Canada” award that is given out to exception Canadians. He accepted the award and he noted that the motto of his infantry battalion is, “you never quit.”
Trauner now works helping other solider’s cope with serious injuries.
