Carleton University’s president may be called to testify

The president of Carleton University may be called to testify at the trial of a former Virginia legislator who is charged with bribery and extortion.
Roseann O’Reilly Runte was president of Old Dominion University when a sitting member of the state legislature landed a job with the school in June of 2007.
At the time, Phil Hamilton was vice chairman of the State Appropriations Committee. He had successfully introduced legislation to give Old Dominion half a million dollars in state funding.
According to the Citizen, after the centre’s funding was approved, the university sought applications for the director job. While three people applied, none were interviewed and the job was handed to Hamilton.
Runte has said she was not involved in Hamilton’s hiring.
