EXCLUSIVE: Canucks tickets given to Good Samaritan

SURREY (NEWS1130) – A Good Samaritan is going to tonight’s Stanley Cup playoff game, thanks in part to News1130.

An Arizona couple discovered late Friday night they wouldn’t be able to use their tickets because of a sudden death in the family.  The visitors approached staff of the hotel they were staying at, who phoned News1130 to find out how the tickets could be given to someone who deserves them.

News1130 went to work, phoning Surrey RCMP who contacted Victim Services, who suggested Maureen Craig.  On Thursday, Craig witnessed a horrific head-on crash in Surrey, where an eight-year-old girl suffered significant head injuries.

“I held her hand, I talked with her [and] I told her she had to stay awake, to tell me a story.  I went into the ambulance with her to Royal Columbian Hospital,” she recalls.

Surrey RCMP Staff Sergeant Dave Brown says that’s essentially why Victim Services has singled her out for the game tickets.  “We are very thankful for the kind of action that Maureen offered at the accident scene.”

Going to today’s game should help get her mind off of the crash scene.  “When I drive by the accident scene I have to pull over to throw up.  As soon as I get near the accident scene it flashes right through my head,” says Craig.
