Feeling the heat: record setting temperatures Wednesday

TORONTO, On. – Record-breaking heat in Toronto Wednesday, as the mercury reached a new high level of 33.3 C at Pearson Airport, nearly a full-degree hotter than the previous record.
Set in 1950, the previous record was a toasty 32.2 C.
Southern Ontario faced very humid and hazy conditions Wednesday, with Environment Canada calling for a humidex value of 41 C – making it hotter than Honolulu and Bermuda.
In fact, Wednesday was the hottest day of the year so far, with Toronto’s Medical Officer of Health issuing a heat alert for the city.
And while the temperature may be sweltering, many people across the city aren’t complaining about the heat.
“It’s just nice to be outside and feel the warmth,” said Anna, who was sitting outside eating her lunch.
“As long as you’re used to it, I don’t think it makes much difference,” said John, who works outside.
“I like the heat,” said Carlos, a construction worker who has been working outside for decades. “[Just] drink a lot of water and try to stay in the shade as much as you can.”
Health officials say the best way to cope with the heat is to drink lots of water, stay out of the sun and head somewhere indoors with air conditioning.
Smog advisories were also in effect for several areas Wednesday.
For those looking for some relief, a cold front will sweep through Wednesday night bringing cooler temperatures by Thursday.
