Four homes struck by lightning in Ottawa

A severe thunderstorm rolled through Ottawa Tuesday night with heavy rain, howling winds and lightning.
Four homes were struck by lightning within an hour.
The first occurred just after 7 pm in Kanata on Hemlo Crescent.
A town home was struck and the flames spread to two other houses.
Half an hour later, a home on Scissons in Glencairn was struck.
A third bolt of lightning struck the gas meter of a home on Tower Road which caused minimal damage, but forced the evacuation of several homes until the all-clear was granted.
With the storm tracking east, a home on Harvest Valley Avenue in Orleans was struck.
Damage in all four fires is $800 Thousand.
Twelve people have been left homeless.
One firefighter suffered heat exhaustion and was treated on scene.
No other injuries were reported.
