Edmonton man jailed indefinately for “brutal, senseless” attack

A man who brutally beat and stomped on an Edmonton bus driver, leaving him blind him in one eye, will be jailed indefinitely. Alberta Provincial Court judge Harry Bridges declared Gary Mattson a dangerous offender for what he called a “brutal, senseless” attack. The designation means Mattson will remain behind bars until experts determine he is no longer a risk. He pleaded guilty to the aggravated assault of transit driver Tom Bregg on December 3rd, 2009.
Mattson was drunk when he boarded the bus and argued with Bregg over the two-dollar-50-cent bus fare. The aggressor punched the driver three times, knocked him unconscious, then threw him out the front door and stomped on his face 15 times.
