MPs debate Canada’s involvement in Libya

OTTAWA, On- The debate continues in the House of Commons over Canada’s involvement in the NATO-led mission in Libya.
The current mandate ends Tuesday, but the Conservative government wants our troops to stay in the region for another 3 months.
Defence Minister Peter Mackay says Canada was in at the very beginning and should be there until the job is done.
“Canada has never shirked our responsibilities, and certainly we cannot do so now,” he said.
The NDP will be fighting this. Defence critic Jack Harris told 1310 News there’s no point in keeping our soldiers involved.
Canada will also take part in a UN mission providing more humanitarian aid and helping the Libyan people set up a proper government.
