Canucks comeback falls short against Flyers

PHILADELPHIA, PA (NEWS1130) – The Vancouver Canucks battled back from three separate two-goal deficits to tie the game at four but Andrei Meszaros scored the game winner for the Philadelphia Flyers in a 5-4 victory.
The Flyers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on first period powerplay goals from Claude Giroux and Chris Pronger. The Canucks cut the lead to 2-1 with a powerplay marker of their own from Mikael Samuelsson but a James Van Riemsdyk tally sent the Flyers to the first intermission with a 3-1 advantage.
In the second period the Canucks would once again cut the Philadelphia lead to one goal when Henrik Sedin beat Ilya Bryzgalov at 6:41. Less than two minutes later the Flyers would go back up by two goals when Jakub Voracek scored his second of the season.
Late in the middle frame the Canucks would pull within a goal for the third time as Chris Higgins scored his second goal in the past two games.
Vancouver finally got themselves into a tie early in the third period when Daniel Sedin completed a pretty passing play from Alex Edler and Samuelsson for their second powerplay goal of the game.
The 4-4 score was short lived though, because just 1:01 later former Vancouver Giant Andrei Meszaros took a pass from Daniel Briere mid-stride and made no mistake firing it into the top right corner. That goal held up as the winner.
The Flyers improve to 3-0-0 with the win while the Canucks drop to 1-1-1.
Vancouver will be right back at it tomorrow. The team will travel to Detroit to face the Red Wings at 5 p.m.
