Glebites give Lansdowne plan thumbs up

From the glassy horticulture building to the wooden façade of the Frank Clair Stadium facing the canal. To the trees and the shopping, the plan for a revitalized Lansdowne Park seems to strike a chord with people around the city.

Adaptability, like the 22,500 seats for the stadium that can be expanded for major events to 40,000, the 450 parking spots that can increase to almost 2,000 may also be another reason.

Diane told 1310News the design has a lot to offer.

“I like the green, like all the trees and the water,” she said. “I like the design… That looks much better than it did before. [I also like] the pond and the skating rink. It looks great. Let’s say we go with that.”

Although Allan agreed, he is worried how long it will be before construction begins.

“It may be a nice plan, but what’s going to happen with the courts?” he asked. “Who’s going to win? Is it going to be appealed to the Supreme Court? It’s going to be tied up for the next, I don’t Know, 20 years in court.”

While the court case over the tender of the project is still ongoing, the city hopes to have Lansdowne redeveloped by 2015.
