Government unveils new counter-terrorism strategy

A new counter-terrorism strategy was unveiled by the federal government Thursday.
It’s aimed at better coordinating the efforts of Canada’s law enforcement and intelligence agencies.
This comes as Public Safety Minister Vic Toews says there is a growing concern about the risk of radicalism in our country.
He says radicalization can happen in a matter of weeks and sometimes that’s too quick for law enforcement officials to become aware of the risk.
To deal with this, the new strategy will have an education and outreach campaign and take action to better coordinate security agencies.
It will prevent the overlap of work between forces like CSIS and the RCMP, to make sure resources are being used effectively.
The strategy will have four main objectives, prevent, detect, deny and respond.
