No injuries after Lowertown fire

OTTAWA – Ottawa fire crews responded to a fire in Lowertown Wednesday morning.

An upstairs resident at a townhouse complex at 454 St. Patrick St. called fire crews just after 7:30 a.m., reporting smoke coming from the basement apartment.

Crews found an upholstered chair burning in the basement and had the fire under control by 8:05 a.m.

The unit is believed to be vacant.

The fire caused up to $50, 000 in damage. There is no word on a cause.

St. Patrick Street eastbound was shut down just east of King Edward but has since been reopened.
