CFIA issues additional code information for beef recall

OTTAWA –  a recent recall by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency on March 17, 2012 warning the public to avoid certain beef products due to possible E.coli contamination has been updated to help consumers identify Irresistibles brand products.

The affected beef products possibly contaminated with E.coli contamination covers 135 products under a variety of brand names.  They include:

  • Best Value
  • Calgary Stampede
  •  Country Morning Gold
  •  Exclusive Selections
  • Grillhouse
  •  Irresistibles
  • Keg, Licks
  • Maple Lodge Farms and PC.

    
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says the beef was produced at Establishment 761 between July 1, 2011 and Feb. 15, 2012.
   
The CFIA says the affected products are identified by the Establishment number 761 that appears on the packages, cartons or cases.
    
They may also have a best before date from Jan. 1, 2012 up to and including Feb. 15, 2013 and a production code with a format of 11 JL 01 up to and including 12 FE 15.
 
The additional codes which have been released to help consumers identify the affected products include 5 digit lot code where the first four digits are 1821 up to and including 3651 and 0012 up to and including 0472. These codes can be found on any one of the six outside panels of the box. These codes would only appear on the six previously recalled products listed in the table below.

The CFIA says there has been one reported illness from the beef, which was distributed nationally to retail stores, restaurants and institutions such as hospitals.
