Bingo at Carp Fairgrounds in jeopardy

OTTAWA – The province is cracking down on underage gambling in Carp.

Residents have been playing bingo at the Carp Fairgrounds for 55-years, a tradition that has long become a family activity.

But a recent complaint about kids joining in the fun sparked the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario to conduct an investigation into the charity bingo nights.

The Citizen reports the investigation began after a person saw a picture of a child playing the game in the newspaper.

The gaming regulator told the city, which issues the fair’s gambling license, to remind organizers kids can not participate in the activity.

Residents in Stittsville told 1310News they did not see the harm in allowing children to play, especially since they are being supervised by adults.

Others said considering it is illegal for minors to play bingo at other venues, like the Royal Canadian Legion, then it should be so across the board.
