Canadian employers remain tentative about hiring according to the Manpower Employment Outlook survey. It finds that 70 per cent will stand pat on hiring for the summer, while 23 per cent plan to add staff and five per cent plan to cut back.
Byrne Luft, vice president of operations for Manpower tells 1310News that in terms of cities, Ottawa was in the middle of the pack. ” The market with the biggest demand was in fact Thunder Bay, St.John’s, Regina, Saskatoon and Red Deer”.
Luft does say Brockville was near the bottom of the list.
The problem for employers and employees is talent Luft tells 1310News. “We have many jobs that require certain skills but those who are unemployed are not matching those jobs that require their skills”.
Regionally, Western Canada led the country in terms of employment optimism.
