OTTAWA – A smog advisory remains in place for the Ottawa region.
Environment Canada issued the advisory Tuesday for a large portion of eastern Ontario, including Ottawa, Smiths Falls, Brockville, Cornwall, Leeds and Grenville, Prescott and Russell, Renfrew, Pembroke and Morrisburg.
Smoke from forest fires in the James Bay area of northwestern Quebec is being blamed for the smog.
Environment Canada has warned that the smoke could cause eye irritation, heavy outdoor exercise may cause respiratory symptoms and people with heart or lung disease, including asthma, could experience a worsening of their condition.
The poor air quality is expected to slowly improve through the day Wednesday.
