Police announce major drug bust

OTTAWA — Police have laid charges against nine men and seized 24.5 kilograms of cocaine, as part of a massive drug bust.

“Project Anarchy”, run by Ottawa police, OPP and RCMP, wrapped up Wednesday, and police seized about $12.25 million worth of cocaine.

Police say Hisham “Terry” Alkhalil is the ringleader of the drug trafficking ring.

“The Alkhalil family came to Canada and originally settled in the west coast, and then they relocated here to Ottawa. With the violence that has gone on in the west coast there was a concern — which sparked this investigation — of that developing here in Ottawa.” said OPP Chief Superintendent Mike Armstrong

Nine search warrants were executed early Wednesday morning. Six suspects were arrested and three remain at large.

Ten vehicles and four firearms were seized by police in the bust.
