OTTAWA – Bluesfest has officially opened its festival house in Westboro.
The former Westboro United Church on Churchill Avenue North has been transformed into a modern, beautiful space which hosts the Bluesfest and Folkfest offices.
The new space, which is roughly 10,000 square feet, also houses The Bluesfest School of Music and Art which offers youth music and arts classes in the basement of the renovated church.
The church, which is more than 100 years old, has been completely gutted and the interior has been replaced with a modern interior except for the stain glass windows.
Bluesfest head Mark Monahan said he’s thrilled to finally cut the ribbon on the $2 million project.
“I’m ecstatic, it’s a really phenomenal space and I look forward to work here for the coming years,” Monahan said.
The Bluesfest School of Music and Art is a not-for-profit charity run is run in conjunction with the Dovercourt Community Association and offers youth classes in art, storytelling and music.
