Five people killed after deadly weekend in Ottawa region

OTTAWA – Five people were killed and three others are in hospital in serious condition after a deadly long weekend in the Ottawa region.
A woman died after being struck by a tractor-trailer on Highway 401 near Brockville early Monday morning.
OPP say a female driving on the eastbound 401 crashed her car in a single-vehicle accident around 3:30 a.m., at the Long Beach exit in Elizabethtown-Kitley.
After the accident she left her vehicle and was struck by an eastbound tractor-trailer, and died from her injuries.
The road was closed for several hours and OPP say their investigation continues.
On Sunday night, Upper Ottawa Valley OPP say two people were killed when a boat crashed in to rocks near Dow Island in Petawawa.
Emergency crews responded to the call at 10:16 p.m. on the Ottawa River.
Zachary Lapointe, 20, of Pembroke, and Tiffany Burgess, 25, of Petawawa were pronounced dead on the scene.
Police say their investigation continues.
Early on Sunday morning, emergency crews were called to assist two campers who had fallen down an 10-metre embankment northwest of Renfrew.
The two were with a group of seven people camping near Thompson Road and River Road in Horton Township around 2 a.m.
A 24-year old woman died, and a 20-year old man suffered minor injuries.
No names have been released.
On Sunday morning, two people were to hospital in serious condition after a crash between a tractor-trailer and an SUV on Highway 17 near Pembroke.
Jean Labine of Gatineau has been charged with failing to stop for a red light, after the tractor-trailer he was driving slammed in to an SUV on Highway 17 at Doran Road just after 9:30 a.m.
The 33-year-old female driver of the SUV, and her 44-year-old husband were both taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
The truck driver was not hurt.
On Saturday evening on Matawanooka Line near Matawatchan, a 65-year-old man died after choking on food.
Police say the Ottawa man was eating at a campfire with family when he started choking.
Emergency crews arrived and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Killaloe OPP are investigating an ATV crash in Madawaska Valley Township Saturday evening, that sent a 20-year-old man to hospital serious condition.
Dustin Etmanskie was riding a 1985 Honda three-wheeler around 5 p.m., when he lost control and went in to a ditch.
Etmanskie was air-lifted to Ottawa with life-threatening injuries.
Ottawa police say a man died after a two-vehicle collision in Kanata on Saturday afternoon.
The man was seriously hurt in the crash around 2 p.m. on Hines Road, and died of his injuries in hospital overnight Saturday.
A woman was also injured in the crash and taken to hospital but her condition is not known.
The man’s name is not being released until his next of kin are notified.
