Electrical malfunction blamed for Lincoln Heights fire

OTTAWA – Investigators say a fire in Lincoln Heights that destroyed a family home and an SUV was accidental, likely caused by an electrical malfunction.

A small explosion was heard early Thursday morning at the home at 976 Arkell St. near Carling Avenue and Richmond Road before the fire was discovered.

The elderly owner, along with her grandson, his aunt and the family dog made it out of the home with no injuries, but the home was destroyed.

The arson unit was called in but late yesterday investigators determined there was likely no foul play.

Damage is estimated at $475,000
