OTTAWA – The battle between Uber and City of Ottawa is heating up.
Two Uber drivers were fined over the weekend during an undercover sting operation.
City by-law officers went undercover and fined the two drivers $650 dollars each for operating a taxi without a licence.
Meantime, Uber has announced on Twitter that it is extending its free ride program up to $20 ride fares until further notice.
Uber operates in 205 cities around the world, using a mobile app instead of dispatchers. People register to share their car and offer rides to people with credit card the only payment option. The fare is based on time and distance.
The City of Ottawa has said Uber must follow taxi rules, including driving licensed cabs.
