OTTAWA – The man accused of murder in a daytime stabbing in the Carlington area has made his first court appearance.
Gino Langevin, 45, appeared shaken and disheveled at the Elgin Street Courthouse Wednesday, as he was officially charged with first-degree murder in the death of his domestic partner Gail Fawcett, 54.
According to the Citizen, Langevin had called paramedics for mental health reasons on Monday, the day before the stabbing. He was worried he had done too much cocaine.
Less than 24 hours later, Gail Fawcett was stabbed by a naked man in the middle of the street on Anna Avenue, as neighbours watched in horror.
Langevin is a salesman for a local heating company, and his friends and co-workers have expressed shock at the murder charge. They describe him as upbeat, quick witted and well dressed, though police do believe he was a regular drug user.
He is due back in court August 10.
Gail Fawcett, originally from Sarnia, Ont., leaves behind two adult sons.
