Ottawa cab hold another day of action

OTTAWA —
A much quieter demonstration by airport cab drivers in front of Coventry Connections today — the action lasted under two hours and featured a significant police presence.
Approximately 60 drivers were on hand at the height of the protest.
Unifor’s Eastern Ontario Director Harry Ghadban told 1310 News provincial mediators have asked all parties to meet to come to a resolution.
“We’ve been looking for meeting dates with the company and they chose to give us one on December 7th, rather than find an early date so we’re here today to let them know that we’re ready to bargain,” he said.
Back on November 13, emergency crews were called to Coventry’s operations centre after taxi protesters entered the building, vandalizing the offices so badly that dispatching services were knocked offline. There were also injuries involved.
Cab drivers have been protesting since the summer over the more than quadrupling of the passenger pickup fees the drivers pay at the airport.
