Towns across Canada will mark the 26th anniversary of the Montreal massacre

Solemn commemorations will be held in towns and cities across Canada today marking the 26th anniversary of the Montreal massacre.
On this day in 1989, Marc Lepine fatally shot 14 female engineering students at Ecole Polytechnique before taking his own life.
Since then, commemorations have been held each December 6th, a day known as the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.
In the wake of the massacre, a White Ribbon campaign was launched to draw attention to the problem of violence committed by men against women.
A rally is being held in Bancroft.
The event’s organizer says that normally the anniversary is marked only with a vigil, but in light of the September shootings in Wilno that left three women dead, a more vocal approach was needed.
