Man accused in triple murder begins preliminary hearing

OTTAWA — A court has begun hearing evidence against Ian Bush in the 2007 triple murder of a retired tax court judge, his wife and their friend.
Bush, 60, was led into court on Thursday as members of the victims’ families watched from the first two rows of court, according to Postmedia.
Bush is accused in the killings of Alban Garon, 77, Raymonde Garon, also 77, and their neighbour and friend Marie-Claire Beniskos, 78. Their bodies were found in their condominium highrise on Riverside Drive, in 2007.
The murders remained unsolved until evidence from a 2014 attack on a World War II veteran.
Ernest Côté, 101, was attacked in his own apartment in Sandy Hill by a man who had told him he was a City of Ottawa employee, before putting a bag over Côté’s head, assaulting and robbing him.
Bush is scheduled to face trial in March, 2017, on the charges involving Côté, who has since passed away.
The preliminary hearing will determine whether there is enough evidence to proceed to trial on the murder charges.
The evidence presented in the preliminary hearing is currently under a publication ban.
