Extreme cold warning issued for Ottawa; Valentine’s Day could be record-breaking

OTTAWA – We are in for a very cold Family Day long weekend.

An Extreme Cold Warning has been issued for Ottawa and the forecast calls for frigid wind chill values right through the final weekend of Winterlude, before things warm up for Family Day Monday.

The coldest point of the weekend will come very early Sunday morning — Valentine’s Day — when we could break a cold temperature record. 1310 NEWS meteorologist Jill Taylor says the temperature could fall as low as minus 29C; the record 28.2C was set back in 1979.

A frostbite advisory from Ottawa Public Health remains in place until further notice.
