Religious statue stolen from Indian restaurant on Somerset

OTTAWA – A religious statue has gone missing from an Indian restaurant in Centretown.
The brass statue of Lord Ganesh, a widely revered Hindu deity, was stolen from outside the East India Company at 210 Somerset St. W on Wednesday night.
The statue, worth more than $5,000 and weighing more than 300 lbs., was sawn-off at the base. The restaurants manager says it will be difficult to replace, as his dad bought the statue in India.
Police have launched an investigation, but there are no suspects at this point.
