OTTAWA – Police have launched a distracted driving campaign.
The annual ‘Leave the Phone Alone’ campaign aims to curb distracted driving among Ottawa’s youth.
Sgt. Denis Hull said drivers between the ages of 16 and 29 are the most prone to distracted driving.
“Every youth has a cellphone in their possession. It’s like an extension to their body,” Hull told 1310 NEWS. “What we’re telling these students, basically, is to leave the phone alone. Yes, there is a huge fine, but more importantly, you could lose your life.”
According to Hull, students have been receptive the campaign, and many are taking a pledge to put the phone down.
