MINNEAPOLIS – A local boy battling a rare skin condition has undergone a risky operation in an effort to improve his quality of life.
Jonathan Pitre, who suffers from a painful skin condition known as epidermolysis bullosa simplex, has had a stem cell transplant at the University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital.
It is the only hospital in the world that offers this particular procedure, and Johnathan is the first Canadian to undergo the operation.
Pitre’s mother, Tina Boileau, donated her bone marrow to Johnathan in the hopes that it will help revitalize his stem cells, and improve the conditions of his ongoing skin disease.
