Number of homeless in Ottawa up five per cent: annual report

OTTAWA – There were more homeless people in Ottawa in 2016, compared to the year before.
The annual progress report on ending homelessness in Ottawa was released at Ottawa City Hall Tuesday.
The report found the number of homeless people is up five per cent, and the average length of stay in shelter is also up five per cent.
There were 25 per cent fewer homeless youth counted in Ottawa in 2016, but their average stay in shelters was up by 15 nights.
Families accounted for more than half of emergency shelter bed nights in 2016, up 12.5 per cent from 2015 and up 24.5 per cent from 2014.
