Pitre may face more surgery

Doctors in a Minnesota hospital are monitoring a local teenager, who has a rare and extremely painful blistering skin condition, for signs of a perforated bowel that may require surgery.
Jonathan Pitre was hospitalized last week for a fever, and spent several days in intensive care for severe breathing issues, according to Postmedia. Tests have now shown there is air in his bowel wall, which could indicate a perforation of the bowel.
Pitre’s mother, Tina Boileau, tells the paper that it’s suspected the fever and bowel issue are linked, and that it can be “pretty serious.”
If doctors determine the bowel is perforated, surgery would be performed immediately. In the meantime, Pitre is not allowed to eat nor drink and is instead being fed intravenously, to rest his bowels.
Pitre’s family hopes he’ll be able to heal without surgery, but will have to wait to find out for sure.
