Two handguns seized in Chinatown traffic stop

The Ottawa Police Service is charging two men with various gun-related offences after a traffic stop on Cambridge Street in Chinatown.
Officers pulled over a car on Cambridge Street at Arlington Street on Thursday, at 9:30 p.m., and found that the driver was wanted on an arrest warrant.
The officers arrested the driver, and released the passenger.
As the driver was out of the vehicle and under arrest, a gun sat in plain sight of the officers, inside the vehicle.
Police then arrested the passenger, who was just a short distance from the vehicle, and found him to be carrying a loaded handgun.
Ashton Taylor-Cain (driver), 25, of Ottawa, is facing charges of:
- Use / handle / store firearm, etc, carelessly
- Possession of a firearm dangerous to public
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm in motor vehicle
- Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
- Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
- Unlicensed person possess prohibited / restricted weapon
- Fail to comply with a probation order (4 counts)
- Possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order (2 counts)
- Fail to comply with a recognizance (2 counts)
- Careless use of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device
Kadar Ahmed (passenger), 31, of Ottawa, is facing charges of:
- Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device (2 counts)
- Possession of a weapon (2 counts)
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm (2 counts)
- Unauthoriczed possession of aprohibited or restricted weapon (2 counts)
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm in motor vehicle (2 counts)
- Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm (2 counts)
- Possession of a firearm, prohibited or restricted weapon obtained by crime (2 counts)
- Carrying concealed weapon
- Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition knowing its possession is unauthorized (2 counts)
- Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized (2 counts)
Taylor-Cain and Ahmed attended show cause court this morning.
