University of Ottawa ranks among best schools in the world

According to the Times Higher Education's (THE) list of World University Rankings for 2020, the University of Ottawa is the 141st top academic institution in the world. The change marks a significant jump from their position as last year as 176th.

The University scored in the top 25th percentile for four out of the five categories THE uses to measure excellence. These include teaching, citations, research and international outlook. They also ranked in the 50th percentile for highest industry income.

The U OF O also saw a jump of 163 spots over the last two years in the citations category, showing improvement in the areas of teaching reputation, doctorate and bachelor's degrees awarded, institutional income to academic staff and proportion of international students.

“For the past few years, the University of Ottawa has consistently ranked among the top 2 per cent of universities in the world,” says Jacques Frémont, the university's president and vice-chancellor, “Today’s THE rankings clearly demonstrate that our efforts have paid off. Credit goes to our talented researchers, who constantly push the boundaries of knowledge, make breakthrough discoveries and bring forth innovative ideas. Recently, uOttawa was also one of the founding universities behind the U7 Alliance, comprised of the top institutions from G7 countries.”

The university plans to continue to set itself apart through its international partnerships, by investing in research infrastructure and engaging different communities by celebrating equity and inclusiveness.

OttawaU currently also holds the position of 7th best university in Canada for the third year in a row.
