Actor Ryan Reynolds donates to Distress Centre of Ottawa

Actor Ryan Reynolds is helping Ottawa once again with a donation to Ottawa’s Distress Centre.

The Distress Centre confirmed the news on their Twitter Friday.

According to their tweet, the donation was made through a GoFundMe page set up by the centre.

The GoFundMe age shows that Reynolds donated $2,000 Friday.

“Along with many other organizations, we have experienced a financial burden related to COVID-19, while simultaneously experiencing a surge in demand for our services. Our peak week had us seeing an increase of 32% in calls, with upwards of 49% daily calls related directly to COVID-19,” the page said. “Our volunteers are working tirelessly 24/7 at the front lines, and they are doing so as volunteers.”

The funds are being raised for the centre’s volunteer program, the Distress Centre said.

With the loss of significant funding due to COVID-19, some of our programs will take a financial hit,” the page explained.  “One of these is our volunteer program which includes the recruitment of volunteers, 60 hours of training classes and materials, as well as 24/7 online support for our remote response to COVID-19.”

The Distress Centre’s goal is $50,000.

Reynolds with his wife and fellow actor Blake Lively had also made a donation to Ottawa's Food Bank earlier in April.
