Shotgun seized during traffic stop on Carling Avenue in west Ottawa

Two people are facing a number of weapon-related charges after a traffic stop on Carling Avenue near Woodroffe Avenue in Ottawa.

Ottawa police officers responded to the area after calls of a vehicle swerving all over the road on Tuesday, May 19. The vehicle was found and pulled over and the driver was arrested for driving while impaired, but officers also uncovered ammunition in the driver's pocket while searching him.

A search of the vehicle turned up more ammo and a 12-gauge shotgun.

The passenger was also arrested.

Mathieu Lamarche, 35, of Cornwall, and Marissa Schoenfeldt, 32, of no fixed address, were charged with: 

  • Pointing a firearm
  • Possession of a weapon
  • Possession of unregistered restricted weapon
  • Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle
  • Possession of a firearm, prohibited or restricted weapon obtained by crime
  • Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order 

Lamarche was additionally charged with:

  • Failure to comply with a Probation order
  • Operating a conveyance while prohibited
  • Operating a conveyance while impaired to any degree by Alcohol or Drug or a combination of both

Both were scheduled to appear in court on May 20.
