‘People wander through private property:’ Councillor asking for respectfulness at Constance Bay beaches

By Chris Kurys

As Ottawa's hot summer continues, many staycationers have stumbled upon the beautiful beaches of Constance Bay, but the influx of crowds haven't been too well-received.

While city councillor for the area Eli El-Chantiry acknowledges that crowds have been bigger than usual, and that beach-goers have mostly been respecting physical distancing rules, there have been some incidents.

“The city owns 39 access points to the beach in Constance Bay and thats what draws the people to come through and sometimes those people wander through a private property,” said West-Carleton March councillor.

He adds that the increased number of visitors haven't been the cleanest, as garbage has been left behind and cars have been parked all over the area.

“They were parking on both sides of the road and that creates a little bit of a traffic jam, plus concerns for emergency vehicles to go through.”

El-Chantiry would like to see a no parking sign on one side of Bayview Drive.

The councillor is imploring community members to be patient, but is also asking everyone to be respectful of one another.
