Charge laid against dump truck driver after collision with 417 overpass in Kanata

A 53-year-old Almonte man is facing one count of careless driving after the dump truck he was behind the wheel of crashed into the Huntmar Drive overpass along Highway 417 in Kanata.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to the collision shortly after 11 a.m., Thursday, August 20. It had originally been reported that the collision happened at Palladium Drive, but OPP say Friday that it was Huntmar Drive.

Officers say the truck had been travelling around 100 km/hr with its dump box raised, before it hit the overpass. The large dump box became wedged on the overpass while the rest of the vehicle kept moving a short distance. 

The driver had to be taken to hospital with minor injuries.
